Done Deal: Dallas Chicken

When you start your own
business with Transworld Business Advisers, what kind of deal could you win? We spoke with Transworld of London South West, about one of their most recent deals.

When Ken Gorman and Nada Selah first opened their Transworld business, last summer, they immediately introduced themselves to local businesses. This included distributing information leaflets about what they do to support business owners who are ready to sell. By doing this, they were able to secure a deal with a long-term relationship, with the franchise group, Dallas Chicken.

“Dallas Chicken are a national brand who have been operating in the UK since 1996,” explains Nada. “They approached us about helping with their franchisee recruitment. We spent time with them to fully understand their business. This enabled us to pre-qualify people, to fit the company.

As business brokers, Transworld Business Advisors supports people looking for their next business venture. “By understanding what a buyer is looking for, we make recommendations to them. So, for people talking to us about wanting a business in the food industry, we include Dallas Chickens in businesses for them to consider. Franchising is a long-term relationship opportunity, and the franchisee is supported by the franchisor throughout the lifetime of their business. We do what we can with both parties, to help establish a good relationship.”

Dallas Chicken didn’t approach Transworld of London South West straight after receiving their flyer. The manager kept the information until it was the right time for him. “He always says our letter – which had been hand-delivered to one of his franchises – was kept in a stack of papers he would look at ‘someday’. When the time was right for him, he explained he wasn’t looking to sell his business per se, but wanted to recruit people into his franchise.”

The advantage, for Transworld of London South West, is the long-term partnership with Dallas Chicken. Rather than this being a one-off business sale, they are able to secure multiple sales. “We have a target of 20 franchisees for this year. After six months, we are on target,” Nada explains. “This is an exciting deal for our business!”

The most recent franchise sale Nada was able to secure for Dallas Chicken, was someone looking for an opportunity, but was confused about what he could do. “He was exploring his
options, after having sold his previous coffee shop business. He wanted something upbeat which would allow him to connect with his customers. When I suggested Dallas Chicken he really liked the concept. Within two weeks of having met the Directors, he had signed up to the franchise, and found a suitable location. His shop then started trading in the middle of June, once the builders had been to kit it out to the Dallas Chicken branding. It was a very quick turn around on his deal.”
