The Office of National Statistics reports, as of October this year, 27.6% of 50–64 year olds, are “economically inactive” – an increase of 2.4% since before the pandemic. And, as identified by The Guardian[1], “a much bigger change than the 1.5% rise in the working age population, as a whole.”

In a survey of this age-group, the biggest reason people gave for why they’d left paid employment, was stress. Followed closely by having been made redundant.
